Terms & Conditions
The purpose of this document is to provide guidelines based on the club rules, legislative requirements, and other published guidance, relating to the allocation and operation of all hangarage and aircraft storage at Leeds East Airfield for recreational purposes only. They are considered the minimum requirement for the aero club to operate in a fair and safe manner towards the members and staff. They are part of the contract between aircraft owners and the club for those based at the airfield.
The Cost of Membership of Church Fenton Aero Club is £52.00 per annum plus a one-off joining fee of £50.00. Membership runs from the 1st September until the 31st August. Joining part way through the year will be calculated pro rata up to the 31st August, plus the one-off joining fee of £50.00.
Members must renew their membership no later than the 31st January else they will be deemed to have left the club and will be required to re-apply to join and pay the joining fee of £50.00.
The Club reserves the right to decline any application for membership. The Club reserves the right to terminate the membership of any member it deems to be in breach of any club rules, or deems to be acting in a manner injurious to the club, or in a manner that brings the club in to disrepute.
Members who join the club but do not hangar an aircraft at the club will receive the following benefits:
Membership card, personalised polo shirt and a eco reusable cup,
Members who join the club and also hangar an aircraft at the club will receive the following benefits:
Membership card , personalised polo shirt, eco reusable cup. and free landing fees.

It is the individual responsibility of the Pilot in Command to ensure that adequate insurance is carried and that all such policy certificates are valid and current.
Public transport flights are not permitted.
Smoking is forbidden in or near the hangars and in all areas airside.
High visibility vests are strongly recommended when airside.
Aircraft must not be fuelled in the hangars.
Aircraft must not be started in the hangar, congested areas, or outside the hanger where propeller wash will go inside the hanger door.
No overhead joins are to be performed.
Any airspace infringements must be reported on landing to Leeds East Airport.
All members accept the rules of operation of Leeds East Airport in their entirety.
Fenton Café & Grill
On certain occasions the café may be closed to the public if a private event / function has been pre-booked or if the event is a ticket only public event.
Security staff will close the café at 5pm each evening unless a member of the café staff are in attendance, members / customers must then leave the premises but are welcome to sit outside on the decked area.
Allocation of Hangarage
The allocation of hangarage is a decision of the Club Manager. If there is an event in the hangars, aircraft maybe stored outside for a maximum period of 72hrs.
Hangarage will only be granted to members of Church Fenton Aero Club. All group / syndicate / shareholders (the “owners”) of an aircraft must also be members of the aero club. Group size is limited to six members, except where an exception is agreed by the manager.
Hangarage will be allocated by written agreement between Church Fenton Aero Club and the aircraft owners. This document forms part of that agreement.
Exceptionally, an ad hoc decision about specific short-term allocation may be made by the Club Manager.
The allocation of hangarage will be done by reference to a waiting list managed by the Club. The presumption is that spaces will be allocated by date of application. However, reference will also be made to the aircraft size and configuration and the available space.
A place on the waiting list requires an application to be agreed by Church Fenton Aero Club. A place on the waiting list will only be granted to named individuals, syndicates or companies. There must be a single point of contact for every aircraft on site.
The specific location allocated to aircraft is a decision of LEA. Whilst every effort is made to ensure some consistency over time to the benefit of owners and the staff, Church Fenton Aero Club Ltd. reserves the right to reallocate space to best manage the assets of the club for all members. i.e, if the space is vacated for a period of time, the use of the space is at the discretion of the manager and may not be sub-let or used in any other way other than that authorised by the company.
The physical structure of an allocated space (internal or external) may not be modified without prior consent of the Company.
We have a minimum and maximum aircraft weight for hangarage:
The minimum MTOW is 650lb, and maximum MTOW is 5200lbs
Aircraft outside these MTOW’s will be by arrangement.
Payment & Charges
The charge for hangarage is based on the aircraft size and configuration.
The hangarage rates are set by the Club and subject to periodic review. Charges are not negotiable with individual owners.
Payment for hangarage will be set up as a Direct Debit and paid monthly. All members of a group / syndicate / shared ownership company [HM1] are jointly liable for any charges. Further charges will apply if this is not adhered to; see costs, below.
Insurance
Church Fenton Aero Club carries the usual business and public liability insurances. These do not cover aircraft or owners or others for any damage or losses they incur.
Hangarage is granted on the basis that owners accept full liability to others and to the Club. It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate insurance.
Damage & Theft
All damage by an individual must be reported to the Club immediately. Failure to do so will be regarded as a serious breach of trust and may result in expulsion from the club.
If you believe your aircraft or vehicle has been damaged, or a theft has occurred, then this must be reported to the Club immediately and photographic or other evidence provided.
Church Fenton Aero Club is not liable for damage or theft. Exceptionally, the Club may fund agreed, reasonable, repair costs where damage can be shown to have been caused by our staff or others working for the club.
The club accepts no liability for loss or damage to valuables stored in the hangars.
Moving Aircraft
The presumption is that aircraft will be manoeuvred within the hangars by, or under the direction of and with the assistance of, the LEA ground staff. Any movements outside this arrangement must be done with the prior consent of the LEA staff.
Where owners opt to move their own aircraft, more than one person must be present to ensure this is done safely and without risk of damage to other aircraft (this must only be done with the prior consent of the Club).
Four hours’ notice is required for moving an aircraft out of a hangar by emailing tower@leedseastairport.co.uk Every effort is made to be quicker than this.
Prior notice is required if aircraft are needed to be moved out before 9:30am or left easily accessible for an early start.
Aircraft must be parked in a way which ensures that, should the need arise, staff are able to move the aircraft from the hangar safely. Brakes must be off and systems safe. Towing bars must be removed when aircraft are outside the hangar.
It is an owners’ responsibility to ensure staff are adequately briefed before moving their aircraft or when a change occurs that may need the staff to take special care. This may be achieved by placarding the aircraft with instructions.
Owners are reminded of their responsibility as PIC to ensure that aircraft start up does not pose a risk to staff, visitors, or other aircraft. This includes starting aircraft outside open hangar doors.
Permitted Operations
No engine starts up under any circumstances inside the hangars.
No refuelling is allowed in the hangars.
Permission is required from LEA before any long-term battery or other external connections are installed. The presumption is against this unless proper mitigation of risk is in place. This may attract a separate small charge. Any equipment must be capable of being unplugged safely by staff as required without recourse to the owner. Batteries must be removed from the aircraft prior to connecting to any charging equipment.
Owners are, within the bounds of the aircraft's operational rules, permitted to undertake ordinary maintenance activities. There shall be no large-scale or long-term engineering work. There shall be no working at height or with heat.
Oil and fluid spills must be reported to the airfield ground staff and cleaned up immediately.
Within reason, and with prior permission of the Club, owners will be permitted to store tools and cleaning equipment in a secure manner in the hangar. These are the owner's responsibility.
No paint spraying permitted.
Limited dry / wipe down / damp sponge cleaning is permitted inside the hangar. Wet or spray washing is not permitted.
Vehicle Access
Airside vehicle access and parking (beyond the gated entrance) is not granted “as of right” with a hangar space. This is to ensure the airfield remains compliant with CAA and HSE guidance.
All vehicles used to access hangars on the airfield will need to carry adequate insurance and have been granted airside permission.
No vehicles are to enter hangars without explicit prior permission from LEA.
Termination of a Hangarage Agreement
A hangarage agreement can be terminated with three months’ notice by either the aircraft owners or, in exceptional circumstances, one month’s notice by the Club.
Owners are strongly advised to contact the Club before an aircraft is sold if they wish to retain hangarage. A continuing space should not be assumed as a changed aircraft configuration may make this impossible.
Hangarage may be terminated by the Club where, in the opinion of the Manager, an aircraft or its owners are adversely affecting the well-being or reputation of the club.
